A former Information Minister under the former NDC government, Mahama Ayariga has opened up about his relationship with his foster father, Martin Amidu, and the legal battles ensuing between them.
The Bawku Central legislator said despite the legal tussle between them, he still considers the Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, as his father although it is unfortunate he is being prosecuted by him.
According to Mr. Ayariga, he feels the rift between them goes beyond legal matters because he doesn’t understand why the Special Prosecutor is prosecuting him.
He said he feels hunted by the Special Prosecutor and believes his father (Martin Amidu) is not seeking justice in the corruption allegations levelled against him but rather has ulterior motives. This is because the evidence against him in court does not suggest any kind of corruption or abuse of office as alleged by Martin Amidu.
“The father that I describe him as being, is based on his relationship with my dad. It’s not because we are related by blood. The only relationship I have with him is because he was my father’s friend and he gave shelter to us. I consider him as a father because of his relationship with my father. It hasn’t changed at all, it’s unfortunate what he’s doing, prosecuting me on the basis of the facts which I also have, I don’t think that those facts warrants prosecution,” he maintained.
He added that “you can see that this person is not looking for the truth. This person is not out there to do justice. This person is just looking for Ayariga and thinks he has found Ayariga. But I have confidence in the court. I believe the court will do the right thing. He is not seeking justice…I feel hunted, there is no doubt about that, but whether he is a witch, it is another matter.”
