There could be another partial lockdown – Information Minister

The Ghana Government (GoG) is considering to announce another partial lockdown with new measures to slow the outbreak of the pandemic as the country COVID-19 deaths and cases keep skyrocketing, the Minister for Information, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has hinted.

The government spokesperson disclosed this new development in a press conference when he was speaking on calls for localized COVID-19 cases which has surged the country’s cases to 19,388 as of July 4, 2020.

“In terms of the possibility of the reintroduction of restrictions, we have always said that all cards remain on the table,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said.

The Information Minister furthered that “As the analysis goes on, how we have complied with this bit of the easing will inform the next line of action. A re-imposition of restrictions in some areas or further easing will be determined by the outcomes as we observe them moving forward”.

The President of the Republic in April this year partially lifted the imposed ban on some regions (Accra, Tema, Kasoa, and Greater Kumasi ) which was identified to be hotspots of the novel coronavirus.

The country’s coronavirus cases as of the time President Akufo-Addo lifted the lockdown was 1,042 currently 19, 388 with 117 deaths and 14, 330 recoveries.

Many Ghanaians who spoke to about the new development are of the view that the way and manner the country’s COVID-19 death and cases are increasing, it will be a step in the right direction for His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo to announce a second lockdown in the country.
